One Conversation Opens the Door to Continued Support

Located in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, Poelker Park is a common gathering place for people experiencing homelessness and other difficult circumstances. During outreach visits, Revive My People provides food, clothing, hygiene products, meaningful conversation, and opportunities to connect with ongoing assistance. Sometimes, a simple conversation can open the door to continued support.

A Conversation That Began With Listening

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Revive My People made its second outreach stop at Poelker Park. Two Revive My People mentors, Joshua and Odell, noticed two people sitting quietly on a bench and stopped to introduce themselves.

They shared that someone had already prayed with them earlier that day, but they were still open to talking. Joshua and Odell listened and shared parts of their own stories, including experiences with hardship, redemption, and the faithfulness of God.

Joshua eventually asked one of the men, Paul, a simple question:

“Why are you here?”

Paul quietly admitted that he did not want his current circumstances to define the rest of his life. He wanted something different. As the conversation continued, tears filled his eyes, and hope began to replace some of the hopelessness he had been carrying.

How Outreach Opens the Door to Continued Support

Revive My People’s homeless outreach in St. Louis is about more than meeting an immediate need. Food, clothing, and hygiene products provide important relief, but many people also need mentorship, encouragement, practical guidance, and someone willing to follow up.

That is why individuals can complete a follow-up intake form known as a Hot Sheet when they want additional assistance. The Hot Sheet helps Revive My People learn more about the person, understand the challenges they are facing, and connect them with appropriate programs and community resources.

Depending on the individual’s needs, continued support may include mentorship, regular check-ins, help identifying available services, and guidance toward greater stability.

At Poelker Park, one person completed a Hot Sheet to be connected with community assistance and programs. That form represents more than a name on a list. It creates an opportunity for a relationship to continue after the outreach team leaves.

One Person Chooses a New Beginning

While Odell continued encouraging Paul, something changed in the conversation. When Joshua returned after delivering a food bag to someone nearby, Paul looked at him through tears and said:

“I want to do this. I want Christ in my life.”

Right there in Poelker Park, Paul surrendered his life to Jesus. He also expressed a desire to be baptized, grow in his faith, and begin a new chapter.

Joshua did not promise that life would suddenly become easy. He spoke honestly about the challenges ahead while assuring Paul that he would not have to take those steps without encouragement and support.

Showing Up Is Only the Beginning

During this outreach stop, Revive My People served 22 people with food, clothing, and hygiene products. One person surrendered his life to Christ, and one person completed a Hot Sheet for continued assistance.

Behind every number is a person with a story, a need, and hope for something better.

Through mentorship, follow-up, community connections, and spiritual support for those who request it, Revive My People works to turn a moment of care into an ongoing relationship.

Sometimes a new beginning starts with food or clothing. Sometimes it starts with a conversation on a park bench. When someone is willing to listen, show up, and remain connected, one moment can open the door to continued support.
