On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Revive My People made its final homeless outreach stop of the day near the Dragon Smoke Shop and a nearby encampment in downtown St. Louis, Missouri.

The team brought food, clothing, hygiene products, and other essentials. They also came ready to listen, understand people’s needs, and connect them with continued assistance.

One of those connections began when Revive My People mentor Joshua met a man named Reggie. For Reggie, a path forward began with someone taking the time to listen.

A Conversation That Began With Listening

Joshua approached Reggie and asked a simple question:

“What brought you over here? How did you get into this situation?”

Reggie answered honestly.

“Man... you know, the devil, man.”

Rather than offering a few encouraging words and moving on, Joshua stayed and listened.

Reggie shared that medical challenges had left him with limited mobility on his left side, affecting nearly every part of daily life. He needed more than a meal. He needed someone willing to see the person behind the situation and hear his story.

How Mentoring Helps Create a Path Forward

Listening is central to the Revive My People Mentor Program.

People experiencing homelessness often face several challenges at once, including health concerns, disabilities, unstable housing, lost income, transportation barriers, and unfamiliar service systems.

Revive My People mentors take time to understand each person’s concerns and identify practical next steps. This may include connections to housing assistance, health or disability resources, recovery services, employment programs, and other community organizations.

Before the team left, a mentor completed a Hot Sheet with Reggie to document his needs and begin connecting him with community assistance and programs through Revive My People. This opened the door to an ongoing relationship and practical support as he works toward greater stability.

Hope in the Middle of Hardship

Reggie also spoke about his faith. He had been raised in church, and his mother often read him the story of Job, a man who endured tremendous suffering while continuing to seek God.

Reggie admitted that he believed he needed to get his life together before returning to God.

Joshua reminded him that God was willing to meet him where he was and walk with him through the healing and changes still ahead.

Standing in downtown St. Louis, Reggie decided he did not have to wait any longer. He placed his trust in God and gave his life to Jesus Christ.

Practical Help and Continued Support

Reggie’s experience reflects the purpose of Revive My People’s outreach. Immediate assistance helps meet today’s needs, while mentoring and service connections can provide a path forward as people work toward a more stable future.

During this homeless outreach stop, 22 people received food, clothing, and hygiene products, four individuals signed up for connections to community assistance and programs through Revive My People, and two people gave their lives to Jesus Christ.

Reggie was one of them. He received essential supplies, found someone willing to listen, renewed his faith, and took the first step toward continued support.

One homeless outreach visit cannot resolve every challenge, but it can become a meaningful beginning. For Reggie, a path forward began with practical help, renewed hope, and the assurance that he would not have to take the next step alone.
